Even as a Crewman, he hated not knowing something, and would spend the time and effort to learn a new skill if he saw an advantage to it. Thus, he was well known for taking a second shift in another section, to help out if they were short handed. He believes in Preparation, Promptness, and Preventive Maintenance, and requires those under him to adhere to the standards he sets, not the ones recommended by Starfleet.

Samuel Clayton was born in Austin, Texas on Earth. His father, who worked at a local replicator plant, imbued within Samuel the need to “wear more than one hat.” During his life, Samuel remembers his father having 8 different jobs in 18 years with the same company, each time knowing when to ensure his own survival by being more valuable. Knowledge was the key, and Samuel was introduced to high school level material at a young age. He showed a natural tendancy to absorb the information given to him, and to remember it years later. He, however, didn’t participate in many activities when he was young, seeing them as a waste of time. As he got older, however, he saw the lessons they teach, such as teamwork, were invaluable in the success of the team. He adopted a type of competitive, yet cooperative atmosphere to help his teams to work better, faster, and more efficiently.

OVERVIEW
Samuel Clayton’s outward appearance is that of a crass, uncaring individual who is only concerned about results. However, discussions with those that he works with, and who work under him, reveal a second side to him. He is unafraid of confrontation, of course. But he also understands the importance of spending time to listen to complaints and issues. While he may explain his position, he believes that the time for discussion is not when he is issuing commands. When asked about his thoughts on family, his replies shows that he sees work as more important. Indications are that he sees his crew as his family and feels no need for any other.
