Physical Characteristics: Her petite stature is more then made up for in her
feisty temperament. She stands tall for her 5'2" and exudes confidence. She
is agile and quick in her movements. She has a friendly nature, and is very
personable.

Psychological Profile: Teila Shan has a friendly nature, and is very
personable. However, underlying her outer facade is an arrogant inner self.
She, like many joined Trill, tend to think that the unjoined are unjoined
because they simply were not deserving enough to become joined, therefore
making her somewhat contemptuous of others.

Teila has a difficult time controling the emotions that remain embedded
within her symbiont from it's previous hosts. This is not normally a problem
experienced by joined Trill's. But Teila seems to fight with it on a nearly
daily basis.

Background: Teila was the offspring of joined Trills Yvar Tok and Roana Ceer
who were *j'fall'an.* To be *j'fall'an* was to be among the best of all
Initiates - the bonding was designed to produce a generation of children
even more suited to be Honored.

Teila was thier only child. Roana Ceer was killed shortly after Teila's
birth and the Ceer Symbiont was transferred to a new host, therefore
breaking the *jífallían* bond as it is only between the host, and not the
symbionts. Reassociation between symbionts is considered a serious offense,
which can lead to banishment of the Symbiont and it's host.

>From the time she was born Teila was groomed to be an initiate, and always
scored well on Psychological tests, genetic scans, and intelligence tests.
When she reached adolescence she was put into an accelerated program, taken
from her father and put into the hands of Joined teacher and house masters.
She was pushed day and night to study, to push herself harder and harder.
Along the way, a couple of her friends who couldn't keep up committed
suicide (the suicide rate on Trill is astronomical, compared to Earth). This
loss of talented youth is seen as a tragic, but unavoidable part of Trill
life, as well as a way of thinning the competition of those eager to join to
the limited number of symbionts.

Teila fulfilled her Dossent training with Jokel Kev when she was 18. She was
then joined with the Shan Symbiont. She was not chosen to be *j'fall'an*, a
fact that she is not happy about and which has become a thorn in her side.
She then attended Starfleet Academy.

While on her first assignment, the former hosts of the Shan symbiont took
over the young woman and she had to be given leave to preform the
*zhian'tara*, a Trillian ritual of reuniting.

After that she returned to Starfleet as Ship's counselor aboard the War
vessel, USS SABRE. During their mission to Triskelion, she was became the
unwilling host to one of the providers. With the help of the SABRE's lounge
hostess, Burgundy Blake, she was able to have the provider removed with no
damage to her own symbiont. However, the experience was unnerving and Roana
decided to return to Trillian to have the *zhian'tara* preformed once again.

Trying once again to control the former hosts, Teila has returned to
starfleet and been assigned to Outpost Zindernuef in the counseling office,
until she can find placement aboard a starship once again.

Keer Shan: An Engineer. Joined at age 25 - slightly later then normal. Keer
married and had 3 children with joined Trill, Lilla Toll.

Joshir Shan: An Instructor at the initiate school. He was a diehard bachelor
and never married.

Uzina Shan: Shan's first female host. She was a Xenobiologist who spent most
of her time off world. She married joined Trill, Heath Rallin, but their
union produced no children.

Rubbe Shan: A Medical Doctor serving with the Trill government. He was
*j'fall'an* to joined Trill, Kayla Kev, who was an Astrobiologist with the
Trill government. They had two children. Rubbe and his wife Kayla were very
devoted to the Trillian homeworld and never left itís confines.

Terret Shan: A member of the Synbiosis Board. He was *j'fall'an* to joined
Trill Reetza Rouge. They had 2 children. Terret was a very snobby board
member believing whole-heartedly in the superiority of joined Trill society.
